5 Proofs for God’s Existence

بِسْمِ اللَّـهِ الرَّحْمَـٰنِ الرَّحِيمِ

Assalaamu Alaykum wa Rahmatullahi wa Barakatuh

Many claim there’s no proof of God. That it simply requires faith. That it’s unscientific and illogical.

Just before I start I want to remind each other that our eemaan, our faith in Allah rises and falls. This is natural. When we do good deeds it rises, and when we do bad deeds it falls. If we feel it falling we must work to remove any bad deeds we have in our lives, and push ourselves to do more good deeds. A person who is deep in sin, no matter how knowledgeable they might be in Islam, will start having doubts. The shayateen will be whispering and pushing him away from Allah. Because of his lifestyle the angels will not be encouraging him and making dua for him. This is real and we must protect ourselves from that. A logical way to look at it is, we are all influenced by our surroundings. When we surround ourselves with evil, our mind will become more evil, and when we surround ourselves with good, our minds will become more good. Allah is the one who turns our hearts, so we must constantly turn to him, beg of him to keep us on the straight path.

For the remainder of this article I will use the name Allah instead of God. God can be made into goddess, or gods. Allah is a more appropriate name to use.

Belief in Allah is logical, and disbelief in Allah is illogical. If atheism is logical then the fathers of logic should be atheist. Plato and Aristotle from the Greeks both believed in the concept of a Creator. Plato argued from design, that design indicates a designer. When we walk on the beach and see a footprint in the sand we don’t assume the sea made that footprint. For an atheist they would say it’s possible for the sea to make the footprint, but we know although that’s possible it is most definitely not likely.

Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? (35) Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Rather, they are not certain.

Quran 52:35

Allah SWT gives us a great argument against disbelief in Him. There’s only 3 possibilities. Either man and in turn the universe, came from nothing, created itself, or was created by something other than themselves. Logically it is only possible for the Universe to have been created from something else. This something else would have to be more powerful than the universe, would have to always have existed, or else we will have infinite regress. Meaning who created the something that created the universe? Who created the something that created the something that created the universe and so on. Without a being that itself is uncreated, then we would never have creation. Allah is al-Hayy, the everliving. Allah is al-Awwal wal Al-Aakhir. Allah is the first and the last. Allah always existed and will always exist. Logically there must be a Creator.

Why does the Creator have to be Allah though? Well the Creator would require decision making capabilities. Intelligence. Because The Creator decided to Create. If you have a cup, a tea kettle, a tea bag and a spoon, never will you have a hot cup of tea until someone decides to move all these objects and make tea.

Another argument for Allah’s existence is design. Allah says:

The Most Merciful (1) Taught the Qur’an, (2) Created man, (3) [And] taught him eloquence. (4) The sun and the moon [move] by precise calculation, (5) And the stars and trees prostrate. (6) And the heaven He raised and imposed the balance (7) That you not transgress within the balance. (8) And establish weight in justice and do not make deficient the balance. (9) And the earth He laid [out] for the creatures. (10) Therein is fruit and palm trees having sheaths [of dates] (11) And grain having husks and scented plants. (12) So which of the favors of your Lord would you deny?

Quran Ar-Rahman

If Allah didn’t create all this, then you’re saying a mindless unintelligent explosion resulted in all this design and utility. It’s crazy. It doesn’t follow their own scientific method. It’s not observable. Never have we seen that to be the case, that an explosion will result in order and function. Never have we witnessed life from non-life. The atheist believing everything came from random chance requires more faith than the believers believing in Allah.

The question shouldn’t even be “Prove to us that God exists,” but rather prove that He doesn’t. Prove that all this order, design came from nothing. Answer the question, “why is there something rather than nothing?” Just like I don’t need to prove the past happened, that my ancestors exist, or that I exist, we have no need to prove something so self evident as Allah exists.

Another argument is called the argument from dependency. Basically the universe is dependent. The sun is dependent on energy. The Earth is dependent on the sun. The creatures are dependent on air, water, food etc. Everything in the universe is dependent on something else. So if everything in the universe is dependent, then the universe itself must be dependent for its existence. So what does it depend on? Whatever it depends on must ultimately be independent or else we have the problem of infinite regress again.

Yet another argument is the natural argument. That is if logically there’s no Creator, then why is it that there is no atheist civilization. Every civilization is based on a belief in a Creator. Across all nations and all recorded history. As Muslims we know that everyone has a fitrah (innate belief) and we all testified that Allah was our Lord even before we were put in our bodies.

Ok so we’ve proven a Creator is necessary. There can only be one Creator, since if there were 2 or more all powerful Creators, one would overcome the other. They would compete in their ownership and we wouldn’t have peace and unity in design, but rather chaos. And if they worked together then having two would be unnecessary and useless. So most definitely there’s only one Creator. In Surah al-Mu’minoon the translation of what Allah says:

Allah has not taken any son, nor has there ever been with Him any deity. [If there had been], then each deity would have taken what it created, and some of them would have sought to overcome others. Exalted is Allah above what they describe [concerning Him]. (91)

In Surah Al-Anbiya translation:

Had there been within the heavens and earth gods besides Allah, they both would have been ruined. So exalted is Allah, Lord of the Throne, above what they describe. (22)

Did Allah create everything and just leave it? Or did he send guidance to his people? Think about this. Most everything has a clear purpose. A hammer has a purpose. A car has a purpose. A tree has a purpose. Animals in an ecosystem serve a purpose. The sun and gravity have a purpose and so on. What’s the purpose of man? Shouldn’t we have a purpose? We must have a purpose, otherwise why exist?

Imagine making a new device. The first of its kind. Nobody knows how to use it. Wouldn’t you give it to people with a manual. A set of instructions on what to do and what not to do? Most definitely otherwise people would harm it and break it accidently, or use it wrong. What more for the Creator who is all-knowing all-wise?

So now we’ve proven Allah, the Creator, must have sent guidance. Which guidance aligns with the idea of one all-powerful Creator in need of nothing, while everything is in need of Him? Only Islam. There’s only 3 major religions that claim that there’s only one Creator. They both depend on the bible which is full of contradictions and errors. The Christians believing Allah has partners, and really most of them believe in 3 gods. And the Jews who believe Allah’s religion is only for them, and there are errors in their old testament. So really that only leaves Islam.

After arriving to the conclusion that Allah definitely exists, the next question should be how does this impact my life? Or what should I do about it? Following the path the Creator wants you to follow, is the answer. The following article will give 10 proofs that Islam is that correct path for all of mankind to follow. 10 proofs for why Islam is the True Religion.

I pray Allah gives us the best in this life and in the next. Anything correct is from Allah, and anything incorrect is from myself and shaytaan. May Allah forgive us our mistakes and guide us to His truth. Ameen.

It is my hope that Muslims around the world live holistic Islamic lifestyles. To aid in that, I’ve been working on books for Muslim kids, so that even while relaxing and having fun, they can be reminded of Islam. Our purpose is to worship Allah, and a smart Muslim will do so in everything he does, even his rest. Having Muslim books helps develop the personality of young Muslim children to a positive one as opposed to a negative one. Even the best non-Muslim book will usually still have things like haraam relationships, mistreatment of parents, shirk, and no mention of Allah or Islam. Please consider purchasing a copy. Jazaka Allahu khayran.
