The Importance of Following the Way of the Last Prophet PBUH

Below are a series of quotes from the Quran and Sunnah, proving the importance of only following the Prophet Muhammad PBUH when it comes to religion. This means for example, we can’t make statements like RIP for dead non-Muslims, when the Prophet PBUH himself didn’t do so. Or we can’t make new ways of prayer, that the Prophet PBUH didn’t approve. We can’t celebrate his or anyone’s birthday (which is pagan in origin) thinking it’s bringing us closer to Allah. And the list goes on.

Anas ibn Malik reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “None of you have faith until I am more beloved to him than his children, his father, and all of the people.”

Source: Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī 15, Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim 44

If the Prophet PBUH is the most beloved to us, then we would want to only follow his way and not other ways. If we claim to really love him, then we would listen and follow his words and actions.

Ibn Mas’ud reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, drew a line in the sand with his hand and he said, “This is the straight path of Allah.” Then, the Prophet drew lines to the right and left, and he said, “These are other paths, and there is no path among them but that a devil is upon it calling to its way.” Then the Prophet recited the verse, “Verily, this is the straight path, so follow it and do not follow other ways.”

The path of Allah is clear. If we find we are following other people’s ways/paths, such as feminism, liberalism, buddhism, red pill, or anything else, we must know that these are other paths. They are not the clear path of Allah.

Indeed the [only acceptable] religion in the sight of Allah is Islam.

Quran: 3:19

The only accepted way of life is Islam.

And whoever desires other than Islam as religion – never will it be accepted from him, and he, in the Hereafter, will be among the losers.

Quran: 3:85

You can follow other paths, but they will never be accepted. You can decide to be a feminist and follow it till you die, but on the Day of Resurrection, it will not be accepted on your scale of good deeds.

Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: “Whoever does any action that is not in accordance with this matter of ours (i.e., Islam), will have it rejected.”

(Narrated by Muslim)

Ibn Umar reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “Whoever imitates a people is one of them.

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “A man is upon the religion of his best friend, so let one of you look at whom he befriends.

You will not find a people who believe in Allah and the Last Day having affection for those who oppose Allah and His Messenger, even if they were their fathers or their sons or their brothers or their kindred. Those – He has decreed within their hearts faith and supported them with spirit from Him. And We will admit them to gardens beneath which rivers flow, wherein they abide eternally. Allah is pleased with them, and they are pleased with Him – those are the party of Allah. Unquestionably, the party of Allah – they are the successful.

Quran 58:22

And whatever the Messenger has given you – take; and what he has forbidden you – refrain from. And fear Allah ; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.

Quran: 59:7

In the opening sermon, every Friday prayer the imaam says:

The most evil matters are those that are newly invented, for every newly invented matter is an innovation. Every innovation is misguidance, and every misguidance is in the Hellfire.

This means we cannot make up new things in Islam. Whether it be a new way of praying, a new way of fasting, making dua for the dead mushrik, praying to the dead and so on. The prophet is the final Messenger. He was taught the best way from Allah SWT.

Narrated by Anas ibn Malik:
A group of three men came to the houses of the wives of the Prophet (ﷺ) asking how the Prophet (ﷺ) worshipped (Allah), and when they were informed about that, they considered their worship insufficient and said, “Where are we from the Prophet (ﷺ) as his past and future sins have been forgiven.” Then one of them said, “I will offer the prayer throughout the night forever.” The other said, “I will fast throughout the year and will not break my fast.” The third said, “I will keep away from the women and will not marry forever.” Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) came to them and said, “Are you the same people who said so-and-so? By Allah, I am more submissive to Allah and more afraid of Him than you; yet I fast and break my fast, I do sleep and I also marry women. So he who does not follow my tradition in religion, is not from me (not one of my followers).

Bukhari

With all these proofs it should be abundantly clear to any sane individual, that we cannot make up new traditions in Islam. That if we do, it will be rejected and we’ll be sinful for doing so. May Allah protect us from following the way of the shayateen, and may Allah keep us on the straight path to Jannah.
