‘1001 Inventions and Awesome Facts from Muslim Civilization’ by National Geographic

We often think that people from a thousand years ago were living in the Dark Ages. But from the 7th century onward in Muslim civilization there were amazing advances and inventions that still influence our everyday lives. People living in the Muslim world saw what the Egyptians, Chinese, Indians, Greek, and Romans had discovered and spent the next one thousand years adding new developments and ideas. Inventors created marvels like the elephant water clock, explorers drew detailed maps of the world, women made scientific breakthroughs and founded universities, architects built huge domes larger than anywhere else on earth, astronomers mapped the stars and so much more! This book takes the wining formula of facts, photos, and fun, and applies it to this companion book to the 1001 Inventions exhibit from the Foundation for Science, Technology, and Civilization. Each page is packed with information on this little-known history, but also shows how it still applies to our world today.

5.

‘My Special Angels: The Two Noble Scribes’ by Razana Noor

First I want to start off by saying how talented the illustrator Omar Burgess is. If he ever happens to read this, please send me an email, because you are my hero. The story itself is rhythmic, and kids will love it. Especially when accompanied by the rich and detailed illustrations. I highly recommend this book.

4.

‘I Knew you Could!’ by Craig Dorfman

Hey! What’s this book doing on this list?! You’re right, it’s not an Islamic book, but the lessons in it are so powerful, I felt I had to put it here. As an adult I was touched by how relatable that little blue engine is, and think it’s a great lesson for young children to internalize.

3.

‘Lala Comics’ by Umm Sulayman

A graphic novel written and illustrated by the talented Umm Sulayman. The graphic novel is a compilation of Umm Sulayman’s instagram posts teaching important Islamic lessons in a funny and memorable way. It’s great for adults as well!

2.

‘Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad’ by Darul Mughni

This graphic novel is great maa shaa Allah. Each page is a one page comic, teaching a lesson based on a specific hadith. It’s a great way to have your kids familiar with moral lessons, and connect it directly to authentic hadith.

1.

‘Noor Kids’ by Amin Aaser

Noor Kids is a comic book series founded by Amin Aaser. Each book has 2 complete stories dealing with different moral lessons. They’re very colorful and engaging. They come with some questions and activities to reflect on the lessons found in the stories. One of the best parts is how affordable they are. You can purchase 4 books for $35.00. It is no doubt my kids’ favorite set of Muslim books for kids.
