Would you trust a meat loving family (I love meat btw, but that’s a separate discussion) to raise your children vegan? Of course not. Would you let a Non-Muslim family raise your kids, and expect them to be raised as Muslims? Never. So why are we surprised when we’re letting our kids consume non-Muslim media that they end up leaving Islam or have strange beliefs not grounded in the Islamic faith?
The reality is there’s a war happening. Yes the wars in Syria, and Yemen, but also perhaps a more deadly war. A war of the minds. An intellectual war to lead the people away from Islam and to anything else. It’s a war that takes place in school, in University, at work, and at home. Yes even at home, because we have invited our opposition in. He takes up much of our time, and even takes us from our own families.
The reality is some of the ideals taught by western society may seem appealing, and they have lots of money backing it up to make it look pretty and inviting. But the truth is, that it’s baseless. It’s based on theories, suppositions, assumptions, “scientific” (science does not deal with morals) studies and so on. It has no substance, but it has a nice pretty box. Just think about how you choose your books, or your cereal. You wouldn’t choose a book or cereal with a crummy cover, you’re gonna either choose what’s tried and true, or something that looks appealing. Well Hollywood has certainly mastered how to appeal to their audiences.
I’m not one to drag a point, so let me get to it. Muslims are not like non-Muslims. Our goal is to lead good lives, and to have a good afterlife as well. And really our focus is using this short life, to lead to the best next life as possible. That should be every Muslims’ goal. That doesn’t mean you can’t have a good life on Earth, but it’s not the final goal. It’s just the journey.
For the non-Muslim it’s the opposite. This is their good life. They’re only focused on this life. This is their ultimate goal. If a Muslim were to follow the ways of a non-Muslim they might have a good life (ignoring depression and whatnot). But they would be dooming themselves to eternal damnation, which obviously we don’t want for ourselves and certainly not for anyone else including our own children.
So how does a person go from being Muslim, to being non-Muslim? Well there’s certainly a lot of factors, but nobody can argue it’s mainly through slow progression. Nobody just randomly wakes up one morning and decides to leave Islam. We are formed by our society and what we consume. If you’re consuming an unhealthy diet of secularism (atheistic beliefs), then it’s not surprising you would become an atheist.
Quran: (6:116)
And if you obey most of those upon the earth, they will mislead you from the way of Allah . They follow not except assumption, and they are not but falsifying.
If you’re consuming Islamic beliefs taught in a manner that you can understand, and you give it the time and energy necessary to digest, then you would become a better Muslim (insha Allah).
So what are we consuming, and is it healthy? Do we really believe the Prophet’s PBUH way is the best way? Or do we think the ideologies of man are better than what God, the all knowing and all wise, taught His Prophet and us? Let’s think about it and make better decisions that will guide us to that happy end we crave.
Quran: (3:19)
Indeed, the religion in the sight of Allah is Islam. And those who were given the Scripture did not differ except after knowledge had come to them – out of jealous animosity between themselves. And whoever disbelieves in the verses of Allah, then indeed, Allah is swift in [taking] account.
