We all want to be successful, and we want it for our kids as well. But what is success really?
Is success in becoming rich? Is that success? Or is it in having a high class job? Is it in being respected by people? What about becoming a celebrity?
Then what about those who are unable to achieve this goals? Are they considered failures? Allah gives us the proper perspective in the Quran:
قَدْ أَفْلَحَ الْمُؤْمِنُونَ ﴿١﴾ الَّذِينَ هُمْ فِي صَلَاتِهِمْ خَاشِعُونَ ﴿٢﴾
Certainly will the believers have succeeded: (1) They who are during their prayer humbly submissive (2) (23: 1-2)
Allah is telling us success is in worshiping Him alone. Submitting to his will and his decree. That is the only way we will gain success. There were many nations before who were more powerful and more successful than ours. They rules for thousands of years, and built huge wonders! These monuments still stand till today miraculously!
But none of that matters, because eventually it will all crumble and be turned to dust. The entire universe will be destroyed and then made again in another form. And the only thing that will matter will be our deeds.
So success is not in this world, but in the next. Those who are successful are those who follow the Quran and Sunnah, which includes being kind to your neighbors, helping the poor and needy, visiting the sick, keeping family ties and much more.
If you look at most of the nations today, they all have so many problems. They pollute, their people are addicted to alcohol and drugs. There’s mass killing, racism, and lack of empathy. People who only live for the present, and themselves. Never caring about those in need or who are suffering. The answer to these social ills is in the Quran and Sunnah if we could only submit to it.
May Allah guide us, and our children to be a generation that helps the world, rather than adding to it’s ills. Ameen.
